Who qualifies

Each advert sets its own requirements, and the job page shows them exactly as printed. The conditions the internship adverts in recent circulars repeat most often are these:

  • You must be unemployed, and in many adverts never have taken part in an internship programme before. One department warns that a contract will be ended if an earlier internship comes to light.
  • A completed qualification in the field: usually a degree or national diploma for graduate internships, Grade 12 or NQF 4 for learnerships such as Home Affairs' cadet programme.
  • A fixed term, typically 12 or 24 months, paid as a stipend rather than a salary on the levels scale.

You apply the same way as for any post: the Z83 form, a CV, and whatever the advert asks for, to the address or e-recruitment system it names, by its closing date. How to apply, step by step.
